Menige mense kla dat 2010 ‘n rowwe jaar was.

Prost!

onthou julle hiervan?

Cliff Richard – Mistletoe And Wine

Unfortunately, it seems like it’s almost the law now that Cliff Richard has to release a Christmas song every year. Away In A Manger, 21st Century Christmas, Christmas Is Quiet, Christmas Song, Ding Dong Merrily On High and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas are just a few choice picks but our favourite – as in worst – is the abomination that is Mistletoe and Wine.

Paul McCartney – Wonderful Christmas Time

Christmas could be wonderful, Macca if you’d just stop singing this wretched tune. You might be an ex-Beatle who has come up with lots of classic tunes but this is certainly not one of them and should really be consigned to the rubbish heap of modern music.

Band Aid – Do They Know It’s Christmas

Even Bob Geldof admitted that Do They Know It’s Christmas was ‘one of the worst songs in history’ and he made it. We’d have to agree. True, it was for a good cause but do we still have to listen to it 26 years later?

Brenda Lee – Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree

It’s chirpy – and as annoying as hell. Kim Wilde and Mel Smith even did a cover to raise money for Comic Relief. After hearing this the last thing you’ll want to do is ‘rock’ around a Christmas Tree but probably use it to poke yourself in the eye so you don’t have to listen this relentlessly cheery tune.

Wham – Last Christmas

It’s not just us who think this is one of the most annoying Christmas songs ever – it came top of a recent poll too. An anguished George Michael sings about giving his heart away to some undeserving woman and how he’s going to be a bit more careful this year. Until you find the right one, can you please shut up? Thanks.

Gister was vir my ‘n redelik spanningsvolle dag.

dis hoe dit by die huis gaan as ek my rug draai

Gut verloren – etwas verloren!
Mußt rasch dich besinnen
un neues gewinnen.
Ehre verloren – viel verloren!
Mußt Ruhm gewinnen,
da werden die Leute sich anders besinnen.
Mut verloren – alles verloren!
Da wär es besser, nicht geboren.

I want to send a holiday greeting, but it is so difficult in today’s world to know exactly what to say without offending someone. So, I met with my lawyer today, and on his advice I wish to say the following:

“Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, and gender neutral celebration of the summer solstice holiday, practised with the most enjoyable traditions of religious persuasion or secular practices of your choice with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practise religious or secular traditions at all.

‘I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2011, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make our country great (not to imply that South Africa is necessarily greater than any other country) and without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of any party.
