Blue light flashing from the railroad track

Blue smoke flying from the old smoke stack

Oh Blue Train don’t leave me behind

Blue steam flying from the blue choo choo

Wheels a whining a lonesome blues

Oh Blue Train on the heartbreak railroad line

Too doo too too

My baby said she loved me true

Then she ran off with someone new

Oh Blue Train don’t leave me behind

Let me ride ’till I lose

These doggone awful blues

Oh Blue Train on the heartbreak railroad line

Too doo too too

Blue Train, you’re coming in on time

‘Cause I just love that lovey of mine

Blue train of the heartbreak railroad line

Too doo too too

1. Strangers in the night – Frank Sinatra (1)
2. Pretty Flamingo – Manfred Mann (3)
3. Pied Piper – Crispian St. Peters (2)
4. Sloop John B – Beach Boys (7)
5. I am a rock – John E. Sharp (5)
6. Die gezoem van die bye – Des Lindberg (4)
7. Hold tight – Dave,Dee, Dozy, Dicky, Beeky, Mick and Titch (nuut)
8. Homeward bound – Simon & Garfunkel (6)

‘Homeward bound’ was nie Simon-hulle se eerste hit soos ek laasweek verkeerdelik berig het nie. ‘Sounds of silence’ was voor dit.

Alhoewel John E. Sharp se weergawe van ‘I’m a rock’ die hit parade gehaal het, was dit sover ek onthou ‘n Simon & Garfunkel komposisie en is dit ook op die langspeler in my besit. Die styl is hulle s’n – ‘n hartseer liedjie op ‘n vrolike maat:

A winter’s day
In a deep and dark December
I am alone
Gazing from my window to the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow
I am a rock, I am an island.

I’ve built walls
A fortress deep and mighty
That none may penetrate
I have no need of friendship
Friendship causes pain
Its laughter and its loving I disdain
I am a rock, I am an island.

Don’t talk of love
I’ve heard the words before
It’s sleeping in my memory
I won’t disturb the slumber of feelings that have died
If I never loved I never would have cried
I am a rock, I am an island.

I have my books
And my poetry to protect me
I am shielded in my armour
Hiding in my room
Safe within my womb
I touch no one and no one touches me
I am a rock, I am an island.

And a rock can feel no pain
And an island never cries.

Can’t help falling in love (vergete sanger)

Wise men say, “Only fools rush in”
But I can’t help falling in love with you
Shall I stay, would it be a sin
If I can’t help falling in love with you

Like a river flows
Surely to the sea
Darling, so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I can’t help falling in love with you

Like a river flows …..
……….falling in love with you.

5. Darling, it’s wonderful – Virginia Lee (3)
6. Distant drums – Jim Reeves (4)

8. I’m a rock – John E. Sharp (nuut)

Volgende week maak ‘n toekomstige ikoon hul debuut. As leidraad die inleidende woorde: “I’m sitting on the railway- station, got a ticket for my destination…”

Nog ‘n leidraad ….

Bye bye love
Bye bye happiness
Hello loneliness
I think I’m gonna cry.
Bye bye love
Hello emptiness
I feel like I could die
Bye bye my love goodbye.

There goes my baby with someone new
She sure looks happy, I sure am blue
She was my baby ’till he stepped in
Goodbye to romance that might have been.

Bye bye love …..

I’m through with romance, I’m through with love
I’m through with counting the stars above
And here’s the reason that I’m so free
My loving baby is through with me.

Bye bye love ….

5. Strangers in the night – Frank Sinatra (nuut)

8. Barbara-Ann – Beach Boys (5)

“Strangers” is een van my gunsteling badkamer-liedjies:

Strangers in the night, exchanging glances
Wondering in the night, what were the chances
We’d be sharing love before the night was through

Something in your eyes was so exciting
Something in your smile was so inviting
Something in my heart told me I must have you

Strangers in the night
Two lonely people, we were strangers in the night
Until that moment when we said our first “hallo”
Little did we know
Love was just a glance away
A warm embracing dance away

Ever since that night we’ve been together
Lovers at first sight, in love forever
It turned out so right
For strangers in the night
Do be do be do da da da …

1. Gezoem van die bye – Des Lindberg (1)
2.Distant drums – Jim Reeves (2)
3. Darling, it’s wonderful – Virginia Lee (6)
4. Pied piper – Crispian St. Peters (nuut)
5. Barbara-Ann – Beach Boys (3)
6. Substitute – The Who (8)
7. Elusive butterfly – Bob Lynn (4)
8. Elusive butterfly – Judy Page (5)

Die liedjie hieronder verskyn in my boek tussen “I’ll do as much for you someday” (Slim Whitman) en “I wouldn’t trade you for the world” (Bachelors).

Wednesday Child (Matt Monroe)
Wednesday child is a child of woe
Wednesday child cries lone I know
When you smiled, just for a while
For a while I forgot I was Wednesday child.

Friday child wins at love, they say
In you arms Friday was my day
Now you’re gone
Well, I sure have known
I’m Wednesday child, born to be alone
Wednesday child, born to be alone.

7. Ballade of the green berets – Sgt. Sadler (7)
8. Substitute – The Who (nuut)

Daar was na Jim Reeves se stem verwys as ‘n ‘warm’ stem.

Darling, it’s wonderful to be in love with you
Darling, it’s wonderful to know you love me too
Gee, it’s so wonderful to hear you sigh my name
It’s so divine to know that you feel the same.

My welcome home at night with a hug and a kiss
All day long , my love, your sweet kisses I miss
Darling, it’s wonderful to have someone like you
As long as you’re my love, I’ll never be blue.

Our welcome home at night with a hug and a kiss
All day long , my love, your sweet kisses I miss
Darling it’s wonderful to have someone like you
As long as you’re my love, I’ll never be blue.

Ahem (Is ons al oud genoeg hiervoor?)

1. Let me tell you about the birds and the bees

And the flowers and the trees

And the moon up above

And a thing called love.

2. Let me tell you about the stars in the sky

And a girl and a guy

And the way they could kiss

On a night like this.

3. When I look into your big brown eyes

It’s so very plain to see

That it’s time you learned about the facts of life

Starting from A to Z.
