Hit Parade: 4 Desember 1965

30/11/2012 in Uncategorized

Dus blog ek vanaand.

1. California girls – Beach Boys (1)
2. Stand beside me – Perry Como (3)
3. Tears – Kendaert (5)
4. What’s new Pussycat – Tom Jones (2)
5. Love – Gene Rockwall (6)
6. Come back silly girl – Stuckatoes (8)
7. If you gotta go, go now – Manfred Mann (nuut)
8. Houston – Dean Martin (nuut)

‘California girls’ vir die 3de week bo, terwyl twee ou bekendes weer hul verskyning maak.

Die liriek is van nog ‘n dans-romanse. ‘Blame it on the bossa nova’ was No.1 die eerste keer wat ek Hit Parade geluister het (1963).

1. I was at a dance when he caught my eye
Standing all alone, looking sad and shy
We began to dance swaying to and fro
And soon I knew I’d never let him go.
Refrein
Blame it on the bossa nova, with its magic spell
Blame it on the bossa nova that he did so well
Oh, it all began with one little dance
But then it ended up a big romance
Blame it on the bossa nova
The dance of love.
Now was it the moon?
No, no the bossa nova
Or the stars above?
No, no the bossa nova
Or was it the tune?
Yeah, yeah the bossa nova
The dance of love.

(musiek-tussenspel. Ek dink klavier)

2. Now I’m glad to say, I’m his bride to be
Now we’re gonna raise a family
And when our kids ask how it came about
I’m gonna say to them without a doubt.

refrein

1. California girls – Beach Boys (1)
2. What’s new Pussycat – Tom Jones (2)
3. Stand beside me – Perry Como (5)
4. Unchained melody – Righteous Brothers (4)
5. Tears – Kendaert (6)
6. Love – Gene Rockwall (7)
7. Look through any window – Hollies (3)
8. Come back silly girl – Stuckatoes (nuut)

Well, I walked up to her and asked her if she wanted to dance
She looked awful nice so I hoped she would give me a chance
When we danced I held her tight
Then I walked her home that night
And all the stars were shining bright
And then I kissed her.

Each time I saw her I couldn’t wait to see her again
I wanted to let her know that I was more than a friend
I didn’t know just what to do
So I whispered, “I love you”
And she said that she loved me too
And then I kissed her.

I kissed her in a way that I’ve never kissed a girl before
I kissed her in a way that I hoped she’d love for ever more

I knew that she was mine, so I gave her all the love that I had
And one day she’ll take me home to meet her mom and her dad
And then I’ll ask her to be my bride
And always walk right by my side
I felt so happy that I almost died
And then I kissed her
And then I kissed her
And then I kissed her

Eina.

Die Kruin

18/11/2012 in Uncategorized

Maandelikse kilos: Desember=58 (2 swem), Januarie=102 (0.6 swem), Februarie=7(7.6 swem), Maart=30, April=10, Mei=14, Junie=25, Julie=6, Augustus=0, September=0, Oktober=41, November = 45 sover. (Swemplek was net soms beskikbaar).

So iets maak my woedend.

Hit Parade: 20 November 1965

1. California girls – Beach Boys (2)
2. What’s new Pussycat – Tom Jones (1)
3. Look through any window – Hollies (4)
4. Unchained melody – Righteous Brothers (3)
5. Stand beside me – Perry Como (7)
6. Tears – Kendaert (nuut)
7. Love – Gene Rockwall (nuut)
8. I’ve got you babe – Sonny & Cher (5)

“Tears for souvenirs are all you left me, but tears can’t mend a broken heart …”

“To Susan on the West Coast waiting”

Dear Susan I know you love me so
But I want to hear it in my ear
You know I’d be there working at my craft
Had it not been for the draft
Dry up your tears and feel no fear
You’re here with me like I’m there with you

chorus
To Susan on the West Coast, waiting
From Monty in Vietnam, fighting

I’m writing a note beneath a tree
The smell of the rain on the greenery
Our fathers have painfully lost their way
That’s why, my love, I’m here today
Hear me when I say, there will come a day
When kings will know and love can grow

chorus x 4

Susan I know you love me so
But I want to hear it in my ear
You know I’d be there working at my craft
Had it not been for the draft
Dry up your tears, and feel no fear
You’re here with me, like I’m there with you

chorus x 2
To Susan on the West Coast waiting
From Monty, supposedly hating
To Susan on the West Coast waiting
From Monty in Vietnam, fighting

Kooltjie vuur in Sandton

14/11/2012 in Uncategorized

Seun het my by die bushalte kom haal. Op my voorstel is ek by ‘n tweedehandse boekwinkel naby Durbanweg afgelaai.

(Hier moet ek FW gelyk gee.

Hit Parade: 13 November 1965

1. What’s new Pussycat – Tom Jones (1)
2. California girls – Beach Boys (4)
3. Unchained melody – Righteous Brothers (2)
4. Look through any window – Hollies (5)
5. I’ve got you, babe – Sonny & Cher (7)
6. Goodbye my love – Murray Campbell (3)
7. Stand beside me – Perry Como (nuut)
8. Everyone’s gone to the moon – Jonathan King (nuut)

Two partners went in search of gold
As friendly as could be
One was young and one was old
And the gay, young fool was me
Since neither one could write his name
We swore upon our souls
To share the wealth and then shake hands
The hands that dug for gold.
(partners)
The summer days were gone at last
And winter nights were cold
The snow had trapped us in the pass
When we finally found the gold
We took our fortune to the shack
To wait the winter through
But the food ran low, so I killed my friend
What else was there to do?
(partners)
I threw his body just outside
Into the bitter cold
Somehow I had to stay alive
I now had all the gold
But the howling wind seemed to say
“You have killed a man
And you’ll never get to spend the gold
With blood apon your hands”
(partners)
The cabin’s covered now with snow
And shelves of food are bare
Satan’s waiting for me now
And I’m too cold to care
Is that the devil at the door, coming for my soul
Or is it just the old man, a looking for his gold.

Hit Parade: 6 November 1965

03/11/2012 in Uncategorized

1. What’s new Pussycat – Tom Jones (1)
2. Unchained melody – Righteous Brothers (4)
3. Goodbye my love – Murray Campbell (2)
4. California girls – Beach Boys (7)
5. Look through any window – Hollies (nuut)
6. Tossing and turning – Ivy League (3)
7. I’ve got you babe – Sonny & Cher (8)
8. Satisfaction – Rolling Stones (5)

“Sixteen men on a dead man’s chest
Ho ho ho and a bottle of rum”

‘Boucan’ (of so iets) was Frans vir varkspek (dink aan ‘bacon’). Vandag se liriek, “The Buccaneer” is gekomponeer en gesing deur ‘Mccully’s Workshop’ ,’n S.A.-groep, gedurende die laat 1970s.
(sing)
Sixteen men on a dead man’s chest
Will I see you tomorrow.
Sixteen men and I’ll see the rest
I won’t beg, steal or borrow (x2)

(voorgedra)
Well we sailed into the beach, and we were just out of reach
Of the forty-second squadron, when I heard the captain screech
“Get down on the sand. Don’t you waste no time
‘Cause we gotta get that gold inside before the tide runs out”

(sing)
And the buccaneer said, “I’ll see you dead
I’ll see you swinging from the yardarm!”
The buccaneer sang in a nasal twang,
“There’s enough gold here to start on
There’s enough gold to get high on”

Save me, oh save me from … the buccaneer.

(voorgedra)
Well I had to get away, so  I swam into the bay
And I could hear him coming up, and I could hear him say
“When I get hold of you,  you won’t even cry
‘Cause I’ll string you from the yardarm
And I’ll see you die”

Well, they got me on the deck, put  the rope around my neck
And I could feel the sweat break out, and I could feel it stick
But the Royal Navy frigate came and rescued me at last
They put one across the bow and fired one into the mast.

(sing)
And the buccaneer said, “I’ll see you dead
I’ll see you swinging from the yardarm”
The buccaneer sang in a nasal twang
“There’s enough gold here to start on
There’s enough gold to get high on”
