This is how Lady Margaret Thatcher lost her weight: newly released material from her diaries that went public this week

Januarie 30, 2010 in Sonder kategorie

From today’s London Mail. It seems even prime ministers and Iron Ladies will go to all extreme’s to lose weight.

The Maggie diet – whisky, spinach and 28 eggs a week

In shape for power: Mrs Thatcher kept trim while at Number 10 with a diet consisting of 28 eggs a week

In shape for power: Mrs Thatcher kept trim while at Number 10 with a diet consisting of 28 eggs a week

She fought hard to get the nation’s finances back in trim.

But only now can the secret of Margaret Thatcher’s own diet be revealed – 28 eggs a week.

The eggs, along with cucumber, spinach, tomatoes, steak and the odd swig of whisky, went towards a strict meal regime that promised to help her shed 20lb in two weeks.

On the brink of becoming Britain’s first woman Prime Minister in 1979, the then Mrs Thatcher was said to be keen to lose weight in time for her historic photocall outside No 10.

Her crash diet plan was found typed on a sheet of yellowing paper folded up and tucked inside her 1979 personal diary.

The black leather Economist pocket diary – which also recorded her appointments such as ‘9.15am Hair’ – is one of hundreds of her private documents being made available to the public from today.

The files, never seen before, have been released by the Margaret Thatcher Foundation and give a fascinating glimpse behind the scenes of the Iron Lady’s first few months in Downing Street.

The diet included a daily breakfast of grapefruit, one or two eggs, black coffee or clear tea. Two eggs were served in each weekday lunch, while steak, lamb chops and fish were the staple of most dinners.

The majority of items were ticked off – but small crosses appeared next to some.

The neatly-folded piece of paper also warned the diet should not be followed for more than two weeks.

Historian Chris Collins, of the Foundation, said: ‘It would have been before the election. I think she was looking to get in trim for the cameras. But she didn’t need to, she never had a weight problem.’

As a woman, however, Lady Thatcher faced different expectations to her predecessors. In an interview at the time, she claimed she had ‘no special dieting regime’ and wore size 14 dresses and weighed nineanda-half stone.

Mr Collins said it was the first time a Prime Minister’s personal notes had been made public during their lifetime. He said: ‘The papers show what it was like to be at No 10, rather than just the policy stuff, which, however important, doesn’t give the full picture.’

Many of the files can be viewed online at www.margaretthatcher.org

MY FACE ON A TEA TOWEL? NO WAY

A horrified Lady Thatcher gave a handbagging to an aide who wanted to capitalise on her election victory with tacky Iron Lady souvenirs.

Tea towels, mugs and postcards bearing her face were among the suggestions put forward by Conservative Central Office.

Five days after the Tories swept to power on May 4, 1979, Gordon Reece, a senior aide at Central Office, wrote a note saying: ‘This is not a matter that we would want to worry the Prime Minister about but I am inundated with requests to have Mrs Thatcher’s features reproduced on teacups, drying up towels, postcards et alia.’

Enlarge    Thatcher-diet-3.jpg

He added: ‘So far I have only agreed to one representation for the Iron Lady to be on one side of a pint pot and the Iron Duke on another.’

But the mere suggestion aroused indignation in Lady Thatcher, who scrawled in the margin: ‘How come? Without any reference to me?’

Where Mr Reece said he saw ‘no basic objection to allowing these things to go ahead’, she wrote: ‘NO permission to be given at all on any goods of any kind. Don’t mind a straight photograph. MT.’

I WILL MAKE THE DECISIONS

Two years before seizing power, Lady Thatcher had already decided there was only one person capable of making all the decisions – herself.

Lady Thatcher's diet was found typed up on sheets of yellowing paper, above and below, in her 1979 personal diary

A memo on ‘structure and strategy’ written in August 1977 revealed her confidence at being able to boot out James Callaghan’s Labour government.

She wrote: ‘It is most important that we get the structure and strategy right and I have already come to the conclusion that I shall have to take most of the major decisions myself.’

BRUSSELS BEWARE

Long before her famous clashes in Europe, Lady Thatcher was spoiling for a fight, the files reveal.

European Community bureaucrats-were ‘paid much too much’, she wrote in 1979, incensed that senior administration staff received £52,529 – while the British Prime Minister received £33,000.

Lady Thatcher scribbled on a letter from her Parliamentary Private Secretary John Stanley: ‘They are paid much too much – from our taxpayers’ money! It looks like a real gravy-train.’

ERIC, THE GOOD LOOKING ONE

Lady Thatcher’s aides wrote brief descriptions of celebrities who had sent her congratulations, in case she had never heard of them.

Thatcher-diet-4.jpg

Comedian Eric Morecambe was ‘the good looking one – not the one with the short fat hairy legs’.

Lulu, Barbara Cartland and Peter Sellers also added their congratulations. ‘As an ex-Goon from East Finchley I send you many congratulations on your marvellous victory,’ Sellers wrote.

Mrs Thatcher’s backers also included Henry Cooper, Barbara Windsor, Petula Clark and footballers Gerry Francis and Bobby Moore.

DRAGGING DENIS TO DINNER

Long-suffering Denis Thatcher wasn’t always happy to go along to official dinners, the files disclose.

His frustration boiled when officials roped him into an evening at Claridge’s for a black tie reception hosted by the President of Indonesia.

A note from No10 diary secretary Caroline Stephens tells Mr Thatcher: ‘Another dreaded State Banquet I’m afraid,’ explaining she had accepted for him.

Denis Thatcher scrawled back: ‘J.C. [Jesus Christ] What I do for the Party!’, adding: ‘The same evening I was going to attend probably the best Rugby Football Dinner this year, namely the centenary of the Middlesex RFU. All my chums will be there!’

Diet pills confiscated by police, Medicine Control Council

Januarie 30, 2010 in Sonder kategorie

Read the full story on Beeld’s webpage today.

What really interest me about the story, is the following.

In short, Simply Slim’s people apparently admitted to:

  •  not knowing the name of the factory in China where their pills are manufactured.
  • not having seen any clinical research proving the effectiveness and safety of their pills

Also (and why does this not shock me):

  • The accreditation code on their website (ISO 9002) has been OUT OF USE for a number of years.
  • There’s also a NQA-mark on their website referring to ISO9001, but NQA (SA) says they have NEVER certified the pills in SA.
  • Neither has the NQA in China.

The legal content of cybutramine in Reductil and other prescription drugs is between 10 and 15mg per tablet, which means that the 27mg found in Simply Slim and others are between 2 and 3 times that of the legal limit. ‘

The high doses of cybutramine has been tested in the trials for Reductil ten years ago. Weight loss DOES NOT increase with higher doses of cybutramine, but your risk for CARDIOVASCULAR complications  increases RADICALLY, according to Prof. Tessa van der Merwe, obecity expert and endocrynologist.

So, if you carry on with the use of these pills, you really need some other one’s too. For your head…

An ‘aaaaawh man!’ series of cute pictures: cheetahs play with baby antelope

Januarie 29, 2010 in Sonder kategorie

Who remembers the documentary shot in Kenya about the cheetah mothering the baby baboon? Well, these cheetahs once again proved their soft side when playing with a baby impala instead of eating it. Here are three pics and the beautiful story of this chance meeting that appeared in today’s London Daily Mail.

Here’s the full story:

“Hello little antelope, would you like to play with us?

Coming from three deadly cheetahs, it’s the kind of invitation that’s best refused – but amazingly, this impala escaped unscathed from its encounter.

Luckily for the youngster, it seems these three male cheetahs simply weren’t hungry.

That’s because unlike other big cats, the cheetah hunts in the daytime, either in the early morning or late afternoon. The bursts of speed needed to catch their prey tire them out – meaning they need to rest after a kill.

And that seems to be the secret to the antelope’s survival, as it’s likely it fell into the cheetahs’ clutches when they were already full – and tired out – from an earlier hunt.

Photographer Michel Denis-Huot, who captured these amazing pictures on safari in Kenya’s Masai Mara in October last year, said he was astounded by what he saw.

‘These three brothers have been living together since they left their mother at about 18 months old,’ he said. ‘On the morning we saw them, they seemed not to be hungry, walking quickly but stopping sometimes to play together.

‘At one point, they met a group of impala who ran away. But one youngster was not quick enough and the brothers caught it easily.’

These extraordinary scenes followed, as the cheetahs played with the young impala the way a domestic cat might play with a ball of string.

‘They knocked it down, but then they lost interest,’ said Michel. ‘For more than 15 minutes, they remained with the young antelope without doing anything other than licking it or putting their paws on the impala’s head.’

Even more extraordinarily, this story has a happy ending – after one tense moment when it looked as though one cheetah would bite the impala on the neck, the youngster ran away.

Let’s hope it didn’t tell all its friends how nice those big, scarylooking cheetahs really are when you get to know them.”

Simply Slim: a conspiracy or not?

Januarie 29, 2010 in Sonder kategorie

Nou reken, as they say in Afrikaans. (The printed) Beeld has yet another big story on Simply Slim this morning. They had the tablets tested that caused a 20-year old, otherwise fit and healthy young woman, to spend five days in hospital with severe heart palpitations. It not only cost her thousands of rand in hospital charges (she has a hospital plan only) but her heart valve might be damaged. She claims her cardiologist, Dr. Andrew Sarkin, told her that the damage will hopefully be reversed in the long run.

Beeld had the Simply Slim-tablets tested by Pharmaworx, an independent lab in Midrand, and Pharmaworx concluded that it contained 27mg of cybutrin, the active ingredient of prescription drugs such as Reductil, Ciplatrim and Ectiva. All medicine containing this must be registered with the SA Medical Council. Medicine control agencies in Europe last week recommended that cybutramine should be outlawed even in prescription medicine as it can lead to cardiovascular disorders and things like strokes and heart-attacks. (See my previous posts on this.)

The capsules Beeld had tested was packed in exactly the same foil packaging like that of Simply Slim, but didn’t contain a certain code. Simply Slim claims that all the “fake” Simply Slim on the market gets packed in a greenish container, which these tablets were not. Beeld reports the packaging in all the cases where people report side-effects even had the telltale Simply Slim-hologram on.) The Simply Slim-agent who sold the product to the young woman, maintains she gets all her stock from Simply Slim’s head office, as did all other agents when their customers complain about side effects.

But the plot thickens. In an updated story on Beeld’s website, it was found that the contents of some of the capsules tested, differed. Not only in the colour of the contents, but also in the cybutramine content. It ranged between 9mg and 26,3mg. Cybutramine was also found in HNS New Me (25,8mg), Forme Slim (25,6mg) and Nu-Evo (29,1mg), according to Beeld’s website story. A Cape Town pathologist also claims finding 27 mg of cybutramin in Simply Slim in November last year, just about when the craze hit South Africa. Read the full online story here at http://www.beeld.com/Content/Suid-Afrika/Nuus/1928/1550e17fa6db4a1e9eab2b1bee43ce0e/28-01-2010-01-13/Simply_Slim_Dis_n_komplot (You can also take part in an online debate on this. So, if you had a bad experience, now is the time to voice it.)

Interesting point: ALL the agents that sold the tested tablets claim they buy their products from Simply Slim’s head office. So, whose fault is it? Is Simply Slim being crooked by their supplier, or are they cheating their agents?

Either way, I still think one should be very careful about popping pills as long as the jury is out on what exactly the contents are, and until Simply Slim can prove beyond all doubt that their product is above suspicion and legally registered with the right authorities her in SA. (Which they were not up to now. Why not??)

Human beings are funny things. We won’t take our precious cars to a backyard mechanic, but only to the specialist at the dealer. Yet, we put our hands in the hands of people that are not medically trained to distribute products very possibly containing potentially dangerous drugs. Can you afford NOT to think about your longterm health?

Child trafficking: it’s happening in Haiti AS WE SPEAK!!

Januarie 28, 2010 in Sonder kategorie

Read the full story in Time magazine. The article heading says it all: “Human predators stalk Haiti’s vulnerable kids”.  One of the most shocking things is that, even before the earthquake, concern was expressed about the number of child slaves in Haiti. A whopping, estimated 300 000 are so called restaveks, in Haiti and abroad.

As Time explains: “Restavek in Creole means “to stay with,” an innocuous term for a far more sinister practice — children, often given up by their poor Haitian families, “stay with” more affluent families as slaves. And like most slaves, they’re usually subject to physical, emotional and sexual abuse.”

As 150 000 people died in the quake, thousands of children were orphaned, raising concern about the orphans welfare. Why?

“Says a UNICEF official who is monitoring reports of scenes like the one witnessed by Pean: “Traffickers fish in pools of vulnerability, and we’ve rarely if ever seen one like this.”

Carl se verdere kommentaar oor die e-pos waarskuwing gisteraand

Januarie 28, 2010 in Sonder kategorie

Ek weet regtig nie presies hoekom die e-pos en die beweerde byna-ontvoering van ‘n 2-jarige vir Carl so ‘n issue is nie, maar hier is sy verdere e-pos aan my, en my antwoord aan hom.
Hoekom reageer ek?
En verder, Carl: as jy my blogs lank genoeg lees sal jy agterkom ek HAAT rassisme.  En ek het integriteit as joernalis. So, as ek se ek het ‘n ding gecheck, dan het ek. Dis die grondreel van joernalistiek. Moenie my blogs of Beeld lees as ons jou irriteer nie.
So, hoax of nie hoax nie, ons moet na ons kinders kyk. En dis AL wat ek wou bereik met my post.
En nou het ek regtig beter goed om te doen as om myself of my beroep of eblockwatch teen jou te verdedig.
from: Carl Muller 28 January 2010 12:11:00 PM

Indien jou baba so geval het so hy getramatiseerd gewees het. Ek sou my kind ten minste dokter toe neem en hom laat ondersoek om seker te maak hy het nie skedelbreuk nie.
Dit is nie gedoen nie.
Verder ‘n swart man het haar gehelp.
So daar is goodwill onder hulle.

On a lighter note: some “health tips”. Follow them at your own risk.

A cut and paste (and yes, a hoax. Not to be taken seriously, except as stress reliever.)

 How sensible he is!

Q: Doctor, I’ve heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?

A: Heart only good for so many beats, and that it… Don’t waste on exercise. Everything wear out eventually. Speed up heart not make live longer; that like say you can extend life of car by driving faster. Want live longer? Take nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?

A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does cow eat? Hay and corn. What are these? Vegetables. So, steak nothing more than efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef also good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And pork chop give 100% recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?

A: No, not at all. Wine made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine. That means they take water out of fruity bit; get even more goodness that way. Beer also made out of grain. Bottoms up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?

A: If you have body and you have fat, ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?

A: Cannot think of single one, sorry. My philosophy: No Pain…GOOD!

Q: Aren’t fried foods bad for you?

A: YOU NOT LISTEN!!! …. Foods fried in vegetable oil. How getting more vegetables bad for you?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?

A: Definitely not! When you exercise muscle, it get bigger. You should only do sit-ups if want bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?

A: You crazy? HELLO … Cocoa bean! Vegetable!!! Cocoa bean best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?

A: If swimming good for figure, explain whale.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?

A: Hey! ‘Round’ is shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.

AND…..

For those of you who watch what you eat, here’s the final word on nutrition and health. It’s a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies:

1. The Japanese eat very little fat

And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

 2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat

And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

 3. The Chinese drink very little red wine

And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4 The Italians drink a lot of red wine

And suffer fewer heart attacks thn Americans.

 5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats

And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

 CONCLUSION…..

Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

So called “e-mail hoax” about almost kidnapping of a 2-year old apparently not a hoax after all (please also read last night’s post)

Januarie 28, 2010 in Sonder kategorie

After posting the warning by e-blockwatch on my blog last night, I was astounded by another blogger’s almost aggressive reaction to the post. He insisted it was a scam, even after I explained (in my post and in my comment to him) that I have phoned Andre Snyman, chairman of e-blockwatch, before posting to verify that the almost kidnapping of a 2-year old did in fact take place.

Allow me to just explain a few things about e-blockwatch:

  • It is a volunteer’s organisation formed by Andre Snyman, a (relatively wealthy) businessman from Johannesburg. I think it’s fair to say that Andre is spending more of his own money on this network than I would have been willing to do.
  • Andre doesn’t get a salary to run this. The only salaries paid are for their webmaster and techies (programmers). The cellphone companies must of course also be paid for the “panic button on your phone”, an e-blockwatch initiative.
  • Members countrywide (at this stage 63 000) report crime, suspicious activities etc to the e-blockwatch network via e-mail or SMS
  • E-blockwatch ACTIVELY participated in the search for Leigh Matthews, and later, her killer, using their knowledge of cellphone technology. They were also some of the first people searching for Sheldean Human after her aunt contacted Andre to say that the local police didn’t seem to take the missing child seriously. Andre alerted members in that part of Pretoria, who helped search for her on fourwheelers and on foot. (That is also verifiable – google the first newspaper reports. E-blockwatch also had daily updates on the search on their website.) I happen to know (through my work as journalist) Supt. Andre Neethling who was in charge of the Sheldean-search. He and other policeman shares information with e-blockwatch if need be. Why would they do that if e-blockwath and spesifically Andre is not to be trusted?
  • ONLY E-BLOCKWATCH MEMBERS, of which I am a proud one, can access their websites “incident reports” and “incident maps” for the simple reason that if it was open for Jan Alleman, the crooks could also see what’s going on where, and what that community is doing to solve the crime. (I was in fact on the website AS WELL last night to verify the “hoax”, plus I spoke to Andre on the phone before posting it)

So:

  • Andre has NO COMPANY that he can advertise by spreading news like this. In fact, he has a tyre business, if I remember correctly from my interview with him.
  • He is a man of integrity that CHECK THINGS OUT before he reports it to the network.
  • He has been the victim of hoaxes before, and therefore really takes extra special care to verify sources. Remember the “dominee” from Pretoria-North disappearing a few years ago? Andre sent out thousands of SMS’s (at that stage it worked mostly through SMS’s) to help find the dominee. He had to pay for those, and SMS’s cost money, as we know. And where was the “hijacked” dominee? Gambling away at a casino. (And you can google this it was in the newspapers about 7 years ago).

For the sceptics still not taking the hoax seriously, have a look at the picture of the wound on the woman’s arm on e-blockwatch’s facebook page:

http://www.facebook.com/eblockwatch?ref=name#/photo.php?pid=3857223&id=546501936

This Andre’s response on the e-blockwatch member’s only page:

“Normally when we receive emails like the one above we delete them as they sound like junk mail. Normally the emails say it happened to a friend of a friend. This one is different. We found the source. I believe it will be in the Beeld tomorrow and the Huisgenot also wants the story.”

And Beeld also has the story AND a picture on the frontpage. I’d say they are also fairly used to hoaxes, and would also check out a source before publishing this, especially on the front page. Read here: http://www.beeld.com/Content/Suid-Afrika/Nuus/1928/65223cdda848468088884a9441000f9f/28-01-2010-12-26/Ma_vasgebind,_baba_byna_ontvoer

My fellow blogger disputes the fact that anybody would want to steal a little 2-year old boy, and says “normally girls of 13/14 are kidnapped”.

That is, I’m sorry to say, pure daydreaming. Children of ANY AGE and ANY GENDER and ANY RACE are victims of human trafficking, kidnappings and other crimes. Why?

Because paedophiles and other sexual deviants and monsters constantly need victims for themselves or to film child pornography with.

Or because some witchdoctor decided he needed a child for mixing muti.

Or because of rites by certain “religions” – I use the term “religion” very loosely – in which children are sacrificied.

Or because some insane woman decides she wants to be a mother, and doesn’t want to wait to get her own, and steals (or order the stealing of) somebody elses child, often babies and toddlers.

Or because somebody is jealous of somebody else, and know that by stealing/kidnapping their child, it will hurt their “enemy”.

Remember the 2008/2009 case in Cape Town where a jealous lover (a white woman) paid two men to kill her lover’s baby with another woman (from a previous relationship)?

Or because somebody wants a bit of cash, and kidnaps a child for the ransome.

I’m over-simplifying this whole issue, but it seems some people don’t want to face the reality that their are monsters out there that will not stop at hurting others, not even if they are small children.

You don’t have to take this or any other warning about this sort of thing seriously, but the bottomline is that human trafficking is alive and well,  and that we should take EXTRA special care of our children (and our neighbour’s children, for that matter) especially in a country preparing for an international event of the magnitude of the World Cup. Not only soccerfans will be visiting…

E-mail alert from eblockwatch regarding children! Please read and pass on – it’s not a hoax

Januarie 27, 2010 in Sonder kategorie

I’m a member of e-blockwatch, and personally know Andre Snyman, who found this virtual countrywide neighbourhoodwatch. As a result, I get their e-newsletters, and this one received this afternoon shocked me to the core. I just spoke to him telephonically, and he confirmed speaking to the victim himself. The story will probably be in tomorrow’s Beeld as well. The pic of the mother and baby will be on eblockwatch’s-website later tonight.

PLEASE people, read it and remember, human trafficking is STILL happening, even here in SA. And with the World Cup fast approaching, there is an even bigger need for child trafficking, as some of the visiting weirdo’s to these events worldwide supposedly don’t really come for the sport, but for the sports, if you catch my drift.

Some part of me still wants this to be a cruel, cruel hoax, but let’s rather err on the cautious side and keep an even closer eye on our children.

READ THE NEWSLETTER BELOW – I JUST DID A CUT AND PASTE

Dear Ilse Salzwedel

This incident was confirmed by the mother with eblockwatch. Go to www.eblockwatch.co.za and see the crime map for updates of this incident. The mother is forwarding a picture of her and her baby to eblockwatch.

I’m telling the story as I can remember… if I left something out… please forgive me…. I’m still in distress, but I need to tell you all shortly what happened.

It happened this morning (20 Jan 2010) with my cousin’s wife, you always hear and read about this, but it only turns into reality when it happens to yourself or your family.

She walked her son to nursery school, as she does every day…. On her way back home she was stopped by some black men – they told her they wouldn’t hurt her – she must just give her baby to them.

She refused, like any mom would have done, the baby (±2) was tied up in his pram.  They grabbed the child but he was stuck to his pram.  She grabs the child’s feet and began to scream.

At that stage, they told her – that they will kill her if she doesn’t let go of the child.  She said to them, they can do what they want, but she’s not leaving her child for them to take.  The one guy then had tied a rope around her neck and around the tree.  They pulled much harder to get the child.

She kept on screaming and held the child with all her power.  One of the guys took a knife to stab her with; he stabbed her in the arm a few times before she got loose from the tree…. At this stage another black man arrived at the seen to help her, he told her to take her child and run – he will help them.

She ran back to the nursery for help. She got 13 stitches in her arm.  The little child’s feet are blue and his arm is hurt badly, but they are ok…. (We don’t know what happened to the men that attacked her.)

She admitted its only Gods power that helped her through this nightmare, without God, she don’t know what could have happened.

This happened in the Weltevreden  area, Johannesburg – this morning, with my own family.  What would have happened if God didn’t protect them?  The criminals is clearly looking to snatch children… they don’t make a secret of this.

Please don’t think this can not happen to you. This happens all around us.  Don’t loose your kids out of sight, keep the kids with you at all times or stay away from public places where the kids can be snatched especially now with the world cup around the corner.  They want kids for lots of reasons, they don’t ask questions – they just take what they want.  These criminals do not worry about age; they take any age and any gender.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR KIDS, IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYBODY. Don’t EVER SAY NEVER!!!  THIS IS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE YOU CAN MAKE.

I also want to ask for prayers for Ewan, Charlene, Logan and Ethan Bezuidenhout. They urgently need prayers to get through this traumatic ordeal.  They can only work through this with prayer.

I also want to ask everybody – please pass this on to everybody you know.  Everybody must know what goes on around them… Don’t be blind to this, we are not safe – not anywhere!
